THE HOUSE IN AFGHANISTAN WHERE I WAS LIVING WHEN THE CONCEPT FOR TRAIL TOES WAS BORN JUNE 2013

THIS IS ME HEADING OUT TO PICK UP PATIENTS WHILE ON A MISSION IN AFGHANISTAN. IT WAS JUST AFTER THIS THAT I WAS READING BLOGS ABOUT UPCOMING RACES AND FOLKS WERE WONDERING HOW TO GET OR MAKE HYDROPEL. IT WAS MY FAVORITE CREAM SO I JUST DECIDED THAT DAY I WOULD START TRAIL TOES TO BRING SOMETHING BETTER TO THOSE THAT NEEDED IT. ALSO ON ALL 30 COMBAT MEDEVAC MISSIONS I FLEW I CARRIED A FLAG THAT I LATER PRESENTED TO STEVE BOONE BECAUSE OF HIS SUPPORT TO THE TROOPS

THIS IS THE FLAG I CARRIED AND THE PLAQUE READS: THIS FLAG WAS CARRIED ON OVER 30 MEDEVAC MISSIONS IN AFGHANISTAN (FEB-AUG 13) AND IS HEREBY PRESENTED TO STEVE & PAULA BOONE BY VINCENT ANTUNEZ, MAJ, USA FOR OUTSTANDING SUPPORT TO U.S. SERVICE MEMBERS. STEVE AND PAULA DO A LOT FOR VETERANS AND THAT IS WHY I PRESENTED THIS SPECIAL FLAG TO THEM.

THIS WAS A LITTLE GIFT I GOT MYSELF AFTER COMPLETING THE FOUR DESERT SERIES, MARATHON DES SABLES, THE GRAND 2 GRAND (TWICE). I AM NOT SURE THAT RUNNING, OR FOR MORE LIKE WALKING FOR ME, APPROXIMATELY 1155 MILES THROUGH THE DESERTS OF CHINA, CHILE, EGYPT, ANTARCTICA, MOROCCO, ARIZONA AND UTAH CONSTITUTE A TRUE DESERT RUNNER BUT I THOUGHT WHAT THE HECK NO ONE ELSE WANTED IT. THE RUN NAKED STICKER CAME FROM JOHN SHARP (DON'T ASK) AND THE CAMP CROPPER STICKER IS FROM THE CIGAR CLUB THERE.

BATAAN MARATHON WHITE SANDS, NM IN 2008 TRAINING FOR MY FIRST STAGE RACE IN CHINA AND CARRYING A 19 LB RUCK. IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE THIS ONE YOU SHOULD. GREAT EVENT, GREAT PEOPLE AND IT HONORS THOSE THAT WERE FORCED TO MARCH IN BATAAN DURING WWII.

THIS WAS THE AWARDS CEREMONY AT THE BRAZIL 135+ (ENDED UP AROUND 165). I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THAT I WON MY AGE GROUP AFTER COMPLETING THE EVENT IN AROUND 63 HOURS. EVEN BETTER IS THAT OTHER THAN BEING EXTREMELY WORN OUT, I FINISHED OTHERWISE PRETTY HEALTHY

FINISHING THE LAST STAGE OF THE 170 MILE GRAND TO GRAND 7 DAY STAGE RACE

The accompanying video shows a unique run that I attended while at Camp Victory in Iraq. One of the members on the Boise, ID National Guard put on this 24 in 24 hour challenge. The basic premise was that the competitor would run one mile (and one mile only) every hour for 24 hours. I heard about it at the last minute, asked for permission to attend and as a result, showed up about 15 minutes before it kicked off. The run was awesome and far more challenging than I would have thought. As a way to honor the participants I put together this little video segment to highlight their collective and individual achievement. When we moved to Al Assad, Iraq, I did a similar run and as the Race Director of the Al Assad 24/24 and the Al Assad Challenge helped raise over 450.00 for the Wounded Warrior Project, something I am infinitely proud of doing.
